  • Spring Break has been decent so far, although it is nearly over. Bummer.
  • Checked my grades the other day. I had two exams the Wednesday before Spring Break that I chose not to study for. 92% on one and a 88% on the other. Straight A's so far this semester. I'm kind of a bad ass.
  • I have not had a cigarette since 9:30am on Thursday, March 5th. Going on two weeks, and surprisingly it has not been too difficult. The smell is now disgusting to me, but I had not noticed that while partaking in the habit. I also feel quite a bit healthier, which is a plus.
  • I'm not sure if it is the breaking of the smoking habit or what, but I have had some weird dreams lately. Thing is, I normally do not remember my dreams, but have been lately. Examples? The other night I had a dream where we had freezing rain on a 60 degree day. This family (mother and her two children) were involved in a head on collision, but I rescued them and saved their lives from near death. Also had a dream about playing for the Wichita State baseball team, although I do not remember that one so vividly. Crazy stuff.
  • The Wichita State basketball team looked great against Buffalo last night. I was not able to go to the game, but watched it on Mark Cuban's HDNet TV network. Very well done. Top notch broadcast. Kudos. The Stanford Cardinal visits us on Monday. Pac-10 poo.
  • Looks like spring is finally here. Thank goodness.
  • March Madness is simply the best time for sports of the entire year. Most worthless Thursday and Friday of the work week for the year. Nothing gets done, at least not for me. The online player is fantastic this year too. http://mmod.ncaa.com. Unfortunately, the brackets kind of suck this year. Definitely a lack of mid majors, which provides for less Cinderella magic. Arizona? Seriously? My bracket can be seen here.
That's all I have for now.

So St. Louis was a grand ol' time. Attended some basketball games. Toured Busch Stadium. Ate meals at Blueberry Hill and Landry's. Perfect weather. Pictures can be seen here. However, Wichita State was screwed by time-clock management issues, handing Creighton the W on Friday. Discussion on this controversy (and video evidence) can be seen here. It may be time for the Shockers to finally leave the Missouri Valley Conference after this error and other "coincidences".

On soapbox...
  • Also, Dana Altman can kiss my ass. His "wipe-the-sweat-off-the-floor-after-a-made-basket" antics were absolutely ridiculous, so kudos to Gregg Marshall for pointing out another spot towards half court in an effort to mimic Altman's crybaby-ness. To the Valley: Quit catering to this joke of a coach! How does he represent the conference in the NCAA tournament? By going 2-9 in his career at Creighton. The Shockers won two NCAA tournament games in one season back on 2006.
  • Creighton fans are the most unclassy fans of any that I have encountered during my three years of experience in the Lou. I realize that every team is going to have their own bunch of rotten fans, but the numbers of good/bad Bluejay fans are very disproportional. Was there really a need for the majority student section to egotistically flip the bird to the remaining Shocker fans above? Fans that included young and old alike? Way to reflect Catholic values, you assholes. At least twelve (or more) of you were thrown out during the game.
Off soapbox.

In other news, I have not had a cigarette since Thursday (3.5.09) at 9:30 AM. In an effort to become a more healthy individual, I am working on giving up the terrible habit. So far, so good. I have not felt a need to smoke, and am already feeling some positive effects. Increases in the senses of smell and taste are positives that first come to mind. I'm ready to get rid of this habit for good. I also am going to try working harder on being physically active, whether by running or bicycling. Currently, at 5'7", I weigh 160 lbs. For that particular height and weight, that places my BMI in the 25.0-29.9 (overweight) range. Growing up, I was always physically active, but have somehow become a lazy bum. Time to get to work on this. Wish me luck.

  • Spring seems to be right around the corner, so today I picked up my new bike and watched Major League.
  • Classes for this second semester are going well so far. The only one I have had difficulty in thus far is Discrete Mathematics. Took the first exam last Thursday, which I though I would completely bomb it. The graded exams were passed back yesterday and I somehow managed to score a 98%. Lucky dawg.
  • Traveling to St. Louis for the MVC Tournament next weekend (March 5-8). The Shockers have really grown up this year and Coach Marshall has been impressive.
  • Shocker baseball starts their first home series this weekend. I love baseball season.
  • Two great movies I’ve seen lately? Gran Torino and The Wrestler. Gran Torino was quite comical. Now get me another beer dragon lady!
  • Anyone else sick of Nancy Pelosi and her antics? She couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag.
  • Installed MythTV a couple of weekends ago. Works great!
Well, that’s it for my “once-every-month-or-so” update. Late.
